Man United are reportedly very close to completing a deal
to sign Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara this week with ESPN stating that
a deal could be announced at David Moyes’s first press conference as Old
Trafford boss which is set to take place on Friday 5th July.
The process to bring in the 22 year old Spaniard has been
a long drawn out one but both the player and Man United are confident that any
issues relating to the personal terms being discussed can be ironed out in time
for an imminent deal to bring the Barcelona youngster to the Premier League
title holders.
There has been some speculation that Thiago is looking to
secure a release clause based on the valuation of his services to prospective
buying clubs being diminished should he not play a fixed number of first team
matches, similar to the deal he currently enjoys at Barcelona.
Alcantara is a player Moyes clearly wants to bring in to
help strengthen and freshen up a midfield that looked brittle last term. Paul
Scholes has retired, Darren Fletcher is still recovering from long term illness
and Anderson may well be sold.
The incoming Man United boss may well look to partner the
industrious youngster alongside veteran Michael Carrick in the centre of his
Man United midfield.
