Emirates Stadium target has one year left to run on his
contract at City.
Arsenal are targeting a move for Manchester City’s defensive
midfielder Gareth Barry, the Sun reports.
Barry only has one year left to run on his current
£100,000 a week contract at City and it is unknown whether he will be a part of
new manager Manuel Pellegrini’s plans at the Etihad.
City have recently signed central midfielder Fernandinho
from Shakhtar Donetsk, meaning competition for places at the Sky Blues will be
even more fierce next season.
Arsenal could offer Barry a way out of the Etihad and
although they won’t offer the midfielder the wages he is earning at the moment,
Barry would still be interested in a move to the Emirates.
Arsenal are in the market for a central midfielder and
recently had a bid turned down by Bayer Leverkusen for German midfielder Lars
Bender.
Now, Arsene Wenger has turned his attention to Barry, who
could cost around £3.5 million, which could be seen as bargain for a player
with so much experience.
Arsenal are also interested in Scott Parker but it is
unlikely that Tottenham would let the midfielder leave White Hart Lane for
their bitterest rivals.
