Liverpool Defender Open To Napoli Move

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has opened the door for a possible move to Napoli with former boss Rafa Benitez ready to welcome him with open arms.

The Slovakian international has been heavily linked with a move to the Partenopei in recent weeks as the Italian club look to add another defensive reinforcement to the ranks.

With some reports indicating a deal is near completion, Skrtel did not close the door on a possible exit from Anfield that would reunite him with Benitez.

Reina welcomes Napoli link with Liverpool's Skrtel

Goalkeeper Pepe Reina, who is on loan at Napoli from Liverpool, has welcomed speculation linking the Reds’ Slovakian defender Martin Skrtel with a move to the Italian side this summer, according to Sky Sports.

Skrtel fell out of favour under Brendan Rodgers last season, making just two starts after Liverpool’s shock FA Cup exit away to Oldham Athletic in January, after which veteran Jamie Carragher, who has now retired, was often preferred. Manchester City’s Kolo Toure has since been brought in as Carragher’s replacement.

Napoli’s new head coach Rafa Benitez is reportedly close to landing Liverpool hard-man Martin Skrtel on loan.

It is looking increasingly likely that the 28-year old Slovakian defender is set to reunite with his old boss and join international team-mate Marek Hamsik at the port city club.

According to caughtoffside.com, an agreement has already been reached between the two sides for the player’s transfer to last season’s Serie A runners-up, with the player initially moving on loan with a view to a permanent transfer.
