Napoli’s new head coach Rafa Benitez is reportedly close
to landing Liverpool hard-man Martin Skrtel on loan.
It is looking increasingly likely that the 28-year old
Slovakian defender is set to reunite with his old boss and join international
team-mate Marek Hamsik at the port city club.
According to caughtoffside.com, an agreement has already
been reached between the two sides for the player’s transfer to last season’s
Serie A runners-up, with the player initially moving on loan with a view to a
permanent transfer.
Skrtel’s impending move to the Partenopei comes after
speculation grew following a second half to the season which saw his first-team
opportunities severely limited, as he managed only three appearances for the
Reds after the turn of the year.
Benitez’s preferred defensive pairing in his 4-2-3-1
formation next season is rumoured to be the aforementioned Skrtel, and Raul
Albiol, the Spanish world cup winning defender who was recently signed from
Real Madrid.
