Substitute Erik Lamela broke down the right-hand side in the 93rd minute and played a low cross into the Brazil international, who impudently flicked the ball into the net.

The win was a just reward for the visitors after they dominated large parts of the game, but Paulinho's strike was harsh on Cardiff goalkeeper David Marshall.

No plans to talk Rooney into staying at Man Utd, says Moyes

           

Manchester United manager David Moyes does not intend to speak with Wayne Rooney in an attempt to convince him to remain with the Premier League champions, the Daily Mirror has reported, as Moyes does not feel any player should need convincing to play for United.

Rooney has been the subject of a number of offers from Chelsea and his future is not yet clear, with Moyes reluctant to discuss the status of Rooney after United drew 1-1 in a pre-season friendly with AIK Stockholm. Rooney was originally to take part in the fixture but was forced to pull out with a shoulder injury, and combined with a hamstring problem it is not yet known when he will be back at full fitness.

Moyes and Rooney have heart-to-heart

Wayne Rooney has not asked Manchester United for a transfer after a heart-to-heart with manager David Moyes.

But the unsettled England star is heading closer to the Old Trafford exit as Chelsea are expected to increase their £30 million offer shortly.

Rooney met Moyes after training on Monday to discuss the latest rejected offer but he pulled back from demanding a move despite his current anger at the way he is being treated by the club.

De Gea: I have matured since Manchester United move

The 22-year-old is in his second season at Old Trafford and claims he has grown both as a player and person since making the €20 million switch from Atletico Madrid

David de Gea claims he has matured as a footballer and person in his two years at Manchester United since making the switch from Atletico Madrid.

The 22-year-old moved to Old Trafford for a fee in the region of €20 million in June 2011, signing as the primary replacement for Edwin van der Sar, who retired that summer.

De Gea initially drew criticism for a number of costly mistakes and doubts were cast over his suitability for the physicality of the Premier League but he has since ousted team-mate Anders Lindegaard as United's No.1.

"I've changed a lot in Manchester,” he told reporters. “I’ve spent two years in their football culture and it makes you change.

"I'm more mature as a person and a player. I'm a very different person from when I arrived in England."

De Gea has started United's last 14 Premier League games, keeping seven clean sheets in the process, and has not conceded a league goal for 537 minutes.

He will face one member of the Red Devils' backline in Patrice Evra on Tuesday evening as France host la Roja in a World Cup 2014 qualifier and De Gea admitted they have shared their opinions ahead of the fixture.

"I have spoken to Evra. There's always some winding up ... he says they will beat us,” he added.

“We will try and do as well as possible, so we can beat them."

David Beckham Named Chinese Super League Global Ambassador, Will Appear in November All-Star Game

David Beckham will play in an all-star game in China later this year as part of a deal to help raise the profile of football in the world’s most populous country. 

The former England captain has signed up to help boost football’s appeal in China, which is trying to clean up its image by clamping down on corruption following a series of match-fixing scandals.

 ”I’m excited by the prospect of promoting the world’s greatest game to Chinese sports fans as I’ve seen firsthand the growing interest in football there,” said Beckham, who was linked with a move to play in the Chinese Super League after leaving the Los Angeles Galaxy in December. ”This is a wonderful sport that inspires people across the world and brings families together, so I’m relishing the opportunity of introducing more fans to the game.” Those fans should get a chance to see Beckham play in a team against China’s best players in November, five months after his current contract with PSG expires.

 If a new PSG deal is agreed beyond the end of the season, the midfielder will ask for dispensation to make the trip. If Beckham has decided to retire by then, the match could offer the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star a chance to bid farewell to the sport before focusing on his career away from the pitch. ”It really underlines the scale and reach of his global popularity,” said Simon Fuller, Beckham’s business partner. ”This is the start of a new chapter in the David Beckham story.” Chinese football has been making progress in reining in rampant corruption that has been blamed in part for the national team’s poor international results. The country has only played once at the World Cup, in 2002. ”Beckham’s own story and his love of the game will inspire a new generation of children to play football in China so Chinese football will take its place on the world stage,” said Adam Zhu from IMG, which helped to broker the deal.
