Wayne Rooney has not asked Manchester United for a
transfer after a heart-to-heart with manager David Moyes.
But the unsettled England star is heading closer to the
Old Trafford exit as Chelsea are expected to increase their £30 million offer
shortly.
Rooney met Moyes after training on Monday to discuss the
latest rejected offer but he pulled back from demanding a move despite his
current anger at the way he is being treated by the club.
Moyes wants to keep Rooney but is also aware that the row
caused by Sir Alex Ferguson's claim he asked to leave is proving hard to
resolve.
On the football side Moyes has assured Rooney that he is
keen to have him in his side and trying to retain the title.
But on the political side United's hierarchy do not want
to come out and back Rooney against Ferguson - leaving an awkward problem
between the parties.
Rooney is off the United trip to Sweden with a shoulder
injury picked up in a closed-door game last weekend.
However Chelsea's new offer of £30 million has turned up
the heat on his future and a further bid may yet be accepted.
United do not want to lose Rooney after a barren summer
in the transfer market when they have found it hard to sign one new player-
never mind have to find two.
