Super Eagles midfielder Nosa Igiebor has assured
Nigerians that they will get back on track after their dismal showing in the
2-3 loss to Congo on day one of the qualifying series for the 2015 Africa Cup
of Nations.
Igiebor, who was a second half substitute in the opening
Group A game, admitted that they played below par but expressed confidence
they'll perform better against South Africa on Wednesday.
"It wasn't a good game for us against Congo because
we didn't play too well," he acknowledged.
"The game against South Africa will be different and
I know we will play better. We have to beat them to get back on track
otherwise, it will be a disaster."
The Eagles have already touched down at the OR Tambo
International Airport in Johannesburg and will connect another flight to Cape
Town, venue of the match.
The Maccabi Tel-Aviv midfielder says a win against Bafana
Bafana is not negotiable at this point, but also admitted that a lot more will
need to be put in.
"We cannot let ourselves and our country down
against South Africa. It is a game that we must win to collect the maximum
points," Igiebor added.
"But we also understand that it isn't going to be easy,
so a lot more work will have to be put in for us to get what we want, which is
a win. "
The former Real Betis of Spain midfielder had an
opportunity late on to equalize for Nigeria, but fluffed the chance after a
neat work from Emmanuel Emenike.
He has taken responsibility for the lost opportunity, but
states that the pitch at the UJ Esuene Stadium didn’t help him.
"I should have scored with that chance to level
things up," he said.
"But in truth, the pitch didn't help my balance but
I take full responsibility for that. If I had scored, we would have gotten a
draw, but that's football.
"The focus now is on South Africa and hopefully we
will get a win."
