Embattled immediate past President of the Nigeria
Football Federation, Aminu Maigari says he and his board have put everything
into it to ensure Nigeria beats South Africa tonight.
Maigari told SL10.ng that efforts have been made to
ensure the Super Eagles salvage some pride, after losing at home over the
weekend to Congo.
"We are putting everything we have to ensure salvage
the situation is salvaged." he told SL10.
"It's not just the board, but also Nigerian’s as
well. I'm sure everyone is praying for the team so we won't be disgraced,"
he said.
He further posited that as African champions, Nigeria
cannot afford to be going through what it is going through and expressed hope
the Super Eagles will win.
"Anything can happen in football and we know that
anybody can be beaten but we don't want that to keep happening to us.
"We are defending African champions and the biggest
football nation on the continent and hopefully we will come out
victorious," he added.
Meanwhile, Maigari has also called for peace in the
country's football by calling on all involved to work together.
He says he has never met Chris Giwa in his life and knows
nothing about him, but insisted that he has never stopped the factional NFF
President from contesting.
"Unfortunately he is somebody I have never met in my
life and I know nothing about his person.
"But we must be transparent in whatever we do and it
should be in the interest of the country," he continued.
"There are laid down procedures to be followed and
we should also understand that there are people that can do better than
whatever we have done.
"Nobody is stopping anybody from contesting, but
let's do it in the right manner," he concluded.
