MY OBSERVATIONS: NIGERIA V GREECE

Wednesday, 4 June 2014

I was awake early this morning to watch the match – not just to watch but to really observe and give possible suggestions. Though i had to forgo a great sleep for it.

THANK GOD we have Vincent Enyeama – his leadership, coordination and saves have been helping the team for years. AND against the Greeks, he showed why he is one of the world’s best goalkeepers – stopping two important shots on target. This shows that Vincent Enyeama will play an integral part in the team’s progress in Brazil.

After the KING ‘Jay Jay Okocha’, taking set pieces have been a major task under the regime of different Super Eagles coaches. And this morning, it showed again with unimpressed free kicks from Victor Moses and poor execution from Emmanuel Emenike. No variety and no routine during all the set pieces against Greece.  I thought after the inclusion of Uzoenyi Ejike in the 30-man provisional list, a dead bad specialist will be in the team due to his massive talent he displayed with it during CHAN in South Africa but unfortunately, he was dropped. I believe Keshi note and something must be done in training as soon as practicable.

Musa vs Uchebo – It was obvious to all this morning that Musa didn’t come to the party, no quick runs or link up play with the midfield for the whole 45 minutes BUT after the introduction of Uchebo in the second half, the game changed. I stopped and wondered – is this the Uchebo i watched against Scotland? His control, silky play, vision and great link up play was superb. This performance can give him a great shot for a starting place against Iran.

Lastly, the team spirit which has always been the basis for friendly matches was displayed and the players are prepared for the massive task ahead. BUT it obvious against Greece again that we need a game changer. #GoSuperEagles
