Keshi: We showed too much respect

Thursday, 26 June 2014

Coach Stephen Keshi believes Nigeria lost to Argentina because his players showed too much respect to the Albiceleste in Wednesday's final Group F game at the Estádio José Pinheiro Borda.

Ahmed Musa scored twice as Nigeria came from behind on two occasions, but still went on to lose 3-2 courtesy of Marcos Rojo's lucky winner off a corner kick.

While addressing the media after the tie in Porto Alegre, Keshi stated that the Super Eagles deserved to take at least a point from the match, but lamented the approach adopted by his players.

"My players gave too much respect to Argentina to warrant the kind of game they played. That was why we lost," Keshi said.

The Big Boss was, however, full of praise for Argentine talisman Lionel Messi who twice gave his side the lead before he was taken off to be rested.

"That guy is from Jupiter, a different planet because of his bundle of skill. The other players were also good but Messi is simply something else."
