Shola Ameobi believes the Nigeria's Super Eagles are
continuously improving with every build-up game for the World Cup in Brazil
which kicks-off next week.
Nigeria are yet to win any of their build-up games,
having been held to a 2-2 draw by Scotland last week, and played out a goalless
draw with Greece on Wednesday morning.
But Ameobi, who started the game against Scotland, but
did not make an appearance in the game against Greece, believes the team are
still making cohesive progress, and will hit their peak form before the World
Cup commences next week.
"Obviously it’s a process and we are trying to get
to the peak going into the World Cup. We are all very excited, and I feel today
we played pretty well; we kept the ball well and threatened now and again,"
Ameobi told KickOffNigeria.com after the game.
"So I will say in terms of preparation, everything
is going well. Hopefully we haven't picked up a couple of injuries, but apart
from that we're happy," he said in reference to Echiejile's suspected
hamstring injury.
Ameobi further explained that the mood in camp after the
downsizing to 23-men has been reflective of altruism and professionalism on the
part of both the players retained and those sent home.
"They have been very professional; they all know we
are in this together. We all knew right from the start that we were going to
get cut.
"Obviously they want the best for the team and they
have been supportive of the guys that have been picked, and the guys obviously
understand the situation that they are in.
"It’s a very tough time when you have a cut like
that, but on the whole the mood has been really good.
