Chelsea FC are keen to sign Real Madrid midfielder Sami
Khedira in the summer.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is determined to get back his
favorite play-maker Sami Khedira from Real Madrid. Spanish news agency Fichajes
claimed that Mourinho is pressing really hard to get the German to Chelsea.
Their sources stated that Chelsea could be biding as much as 37 million Euros
to get his services . This is seen as Maurinho’s strategy to rebuild Chelsea’s
midfield and find long term replacements for aging players.
Khedira, who was a regular feature in the Real Madrid
midfield when the Portuguese was in-charge, has lost his way due to a prolong
knee injury which saw him warming the bench for most of the time this season.
With the likes of Xavi Alonso and Luka Modric being favored over him and
performing exceptionally well , his future in Real Madrid looks really bleak.
That is the reason why he seems ready to move on from Real Madrid.
Although Khedira is regarded very highly for his
play-making skills, his recent stint with injuries have raised questions about
his fitness. Thus the amount Chelsea is ready to pay looks inflated for a
player whose class is beyond any doubts but whose recent form has been below
par.
The German International who is known for his creative
passing and attacking skills, had been a center figure under Mourinho’s
flagship. His control over the ball and accurate long passing range has
impressed many at Santiago Barnebau. His inclusion to Chelsea’s team is seen as
an attempt to resurge some acceleration to their game. He is also seen as
potential replacement to Frank Lampard, who is in the twilight of his career.
Khedira has always been Mourinho’s favorite. The
Portuguese had in fact bought Khedira
from Stuttgart at 10m Euros, just 2 months after taking his position as Real
Madrid coach. It is believed that the German was set to come to Chelsea At the
end of last season but his injury terminated all chances of his transfer at that
time.
Khedira has described himself as ”one of Mourinho’s disciples”. Chelsea has
already spent 21 million Euros on Nemanja Matic’s transfer in January and
thus Mourinho will have to be careful
while spending such hefty amount of money as it may breach the UEFA’s Financial
Fair Play Rules, something that he has been vouching for a long time.
It is also believed that Chelsea could possibly face a
bid-war against Italian giants Roma, who are also eying on the German
International.
This season has been pretty barren for Chelsea. They
couldn’t manage to lift any silverware, which has created a big stir among
their supporters and club-management as well.
Apart from Sami Khedira, Chelsea are also reportedly
bidding for Southampton’s Luke Shaw and Spurs midfielder Paulinho. in order to
strengthen their midfield.
