Congratulations to Arsenal fans, and I hope the success
will be sustained for that would be the more worthy thing to come out of it.
It would be important to note that after the Arsenal
invincibles won the EPL in 2004 they were expected to dominate the EPL for at
least a few seasons and replicate it even in Europe, but the only trophy the
team won after that was the 2005 FA cup and nothing else for 9 years until
their FA Cup win last Saturday.
Yes no one is perfect, but I believe some pains can be
prolonged and some burdens can be made harder due to bad decisions, which I
believe was the case with Arsene Wenger, which prolonged Arsenal's trophy
drought.
Wenger was consistently doing the same thing and expecting different
results, he was consistently selling the club best players and replacing them
with players that in many cases didn't even have half the quality or still had
years of learning to catch up.
He was also guilty of being tactically rigid. It is nice
they have finally won, but the achievement even though it has its lessons was
not convincing, it owed more to good fortune than aplomb or finesse. The team
and Wenger needs to improve on several fronts if the success is to be
sustained, and action needs to be prompt.
If this is done, Arsenal may not wait up to 9years again
to savour more important silverware, but if not they might be in for a similar
longer wait like the one they just exited. Thank you.
