German legend Franz Beckenbauer believes Louis Van Gaal
would be the perfect fit for Manchester United as he looks set to takeover at
Old Trafford in the summer.
Van Gaal has proved himself at the highest level with
Bayern Munich, winning the double in 2010 to add to his long list of honours at
Ajax, Barcelona and AZ Alkmaar.
Having paid close attention to the Dutch manager during
his time in Germany, Beckenbauer says he would be the perfect appointment for
United because of his experience and knowledge of English football, the Daily
Mail reports.
“He would be perfect for Man United because he is an
internationally experienced coach and he understands English football,” he
said.
“I don’t know if it’s a rumour or if they’re really
trying to sign him but if they agree with Louis I think it would be a good part
of the future. He won a lot of titles so he is experienced and he is ambitious.
He has the personality. He has everything.”
Van Gaal has been favourite for the vacant role at United
ever since David Moyes was sacked last week and there are already rumours about
the players he may bring in this summer.
His job will be to return United to the top of the
Premier League table after a disappointing season sees them miss out on a top
three finish for the first time in Premier League history.
