Van Persie’s performance for Holland shows Manchester United form isn’t his only problem

Thursday, 6 March 2014

Robin van Persie played the full game in Holland’s 2-0 loss against France last night and his performance mirrored his recent matches with Manchester United.

Lethargic and with very little movement, Van Persie was isolated in attack and offered little to help Holland overcome a powerful and energetic France. It was the same performance we have seen from Van Persie at United in the past few games, a player who has been a shadow of the  2012/13 striker..

Van Gaal decided to play Van Persie for 90 minutes against France and for a variety of reasons, it didn’t make any sense.

Van Persie missed training on Tuesday and was forced stay in bed because he was sick, so he was by no means 100% fit to face France. Also, in the build up to the game, Van Gaal indicated he may give others an opportunity because Van Persie’s spot at the World Cup is guaranteed, yet played him for the full match.
