Internet giant, Yahoo has signed Chelsea manager Jose
Mourinho as its Global Football Ambassador for 2014.
In an official statement released on the company’s
website, Yahoo states that the they are happy to have Mourinho join the Yahoo
family as he is one of the most influential figures in the game plus his track
record shows that he is a winner and such qualities are what the company is
associated with.
Yahoo also states that the Portuguese manager will be
part of the company’s team to cover the World Cup. He will share his opinion on the happenings
in Brazil exclusively with the web giant. Aside from the World Cup, Mourinho
will also open the doors to some of the more intimate aspect of his life as
videos and pictures of the Chelsea manager’s life outside football will be posted
on the Yahoo website all year round.
Speaking of the deal, Mourinho revealed that he chose
Yahoo because of his desire to better connect with his fans, stressing that
internet based media appeals to a certain generation of football fans and that
generation is beginning to gain more prominence on affairs of the game
therefore it is important to connect with them.
“I decided because it is very prestigious and I want to
connect myself at every area with prestige; so I was looking for prestige. At
the same time if I want to communicate with people – and that is the objective,
to share some of my ideas about football and especially about the World Cup – I
want to share with many, many millions.
“I don’t want to share with a few thousand that buy a
normal newspaper or a couple of million who follow a certain TV channel. I share with many millions or I don’t share,
so let’s share with many millions. For sure some will disagree, for sure some
will say how can this guy be a top manager, but for sure some will agree with
me and for sure I think we can have some fun,” Mourinho said during his
unveiling.
