ALAN Pardew’s pleaded with Newcastle United fans to be
“patient” with Luuk de Jong.
The striker is on a half-season loan at St James’s Park
from Germna club Borussia Monchengladbach.
De Jong – who has made eight appearances for Newcastle –
is yet to open his account.
The 23-year-old, expected to start against Southampton at
the St Mary’s Stadium tomorrow, hasn’t scored a league goal in almost a year.
But United manager Pardew is confident de Jong – who
hopes to earn a permanent move to the club – will soon hit the goals trail.
“Our fans need to be patient with Luuk,” Pardew told the
Gazette “He’s had a terrible time in Germany in terms of not playing. He needs
to have that understanding.
“He’s finding his feet and finding his confidence.
“I know he likes the environment that he has found
himself in, and players flourish when they start enjoying their football.
Hopefully he can start doing that again.”
