Arsenal are one of multiple clubs plotting a summer move
for Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda, according to reports from talkSPORT.
The French international has long been thought of as one
of Ligue 1’s finest stoppers, and has been a regular for his club side for some
time.
However there have been suggestions that he is ready to
leave, alerting a host of clubs.
Arsenal are one of the more interested sides, with Arsene
Wenger thought to see the 28-year-old as a good replacement for Wojciech
Szczesny.
The Polish star has been in good form this season, but
there are still lingering doubts as to whether or not he is at the required
level for a title charge.
Mandanda has twice been named as the French top
division’s Goalkeeper of the Year, and is thought to be admired by Wenger.
Marseille are believed to value their man at around
£8.5m, which could ease a summer deal for the Gunners, who are rumoured to have
money to spend.
Roma, Monaco and Atletico Madrid are all also keen on
Mandanda, and may mount rival offers in six months’ time.
