Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has backed Mesut Ozil to be
the main instigator in a sensational comeback against Bayern Munich tonight.
The Gunners travel to the German and European champions
looking to turn round a 2-0 deficit from the first leg.
But the result could have been so different had Ozil not
missed his first-half penalty when Manuel Neuer saved his tame kick.
Manager Wenger believes that the missed penalty had a
detrimental affect on his performance but is now on the right path to help
Arsenal pull off a shock victory in Germany.
Reported in the Metro, he said: “I believe he was
affected by his performance (in the first leg).
“He started quite well in the first game and after that
he was affected by the fact that he missed the penalty.
“It affected his performance because he felt he let the
team down. I think since, he has recovered.
“He had a great performance on Saturday, is on the right
path and I am confident he will have a good game.”
Arsenal will take positives heading into the game tonight
after booking a trip to Wembley following a 4-1 victory over Everton in the FA
Cup quarter final.
They will also look back at last years performance when a
0-2 victory in Germany wasn’t enough to turn around a 3-1 deficit and were
knocked out on away goals.
