Schalke 04 star Julian Draxler has refused to rule out a
possible summer move to Bayern Munich, according to the London Evening Standard.
The German international is believed to be high on
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger’s wish list, after the club had originally tried
to sign him in the January transfer window.
Despite their efforts to secure the 20-year-old’s
signature, The Gunners were unable to prize him away from the Veltins-Arena and
have him join up with compatriot Mesut Ozil in North London.
Rumours
Draxler was reportedly the subject of a £37.8 million pound
bid by from an anonymous club last month, but has since refrained from
dismissing the possibility that he could join Pep Guardiola at the Allianz
Arena.
He said, as reported by the London Evening Standard, ”I’d
prefer not to comment on all those rumours. Look at what happened with Manuel
Neuer. He was 100 per cent convinced that he would never join FC Bayern but,
after having played as a pro for five years, time made him change his opinion.
“I also can’t say what I will think in five or six or
maybe even 10 years. And when you rule something out entirely and you end up
playing where most people don’t want you to be, the outcry is huge.”
Possibility
The youngster signed a contract with his current club in
May that runs through to 2018, and he has stated that he would be happy to
remain in Gelsenkirchen. However, included in the deal was a buy-out-clause,
which has sparked much talk of a possible transfer some time in the near
future.
He added, “It’s no secret that I have a get-out clause in
the contract and so from year to year, the possibility exists, at least to
think about what is best for my development. Of course, the clause leaves a lot
of room for speculation, but it is also good for both sides.
“It’s good for Schalke because the club does not have to
let go of me on the cheap and, in their worst-case scenario, they would still
get a lot of money for me.”
He burst on to the scene at Schalke as a 17-year-old, and
the playmaker went on to become the youngest professional to reach 100 club appearances
in the Bundesliga last year.
Joachim Low will be banking on Draxler staying in form
and injury free in the lead up to this summer’s World Cup in Brazil, but will
also be hoping that his young starlet will be free of distraction as his team
travels to South America.
