Tottenham have announced the completion of the transfer
of striker Roberto Soldado from Valencia for £26m which is a record fee paid by
Spurs.
The player passed
his medical and with all negotiations completed successfully, he is available
for the up-coming matches, possibly making his debut against Espanyol on
Saturday evening at White Hart Lane.
The completion of the deal will be a relief to Andre
Villas-Boas who saw Jermain Defoe go off early in the first half of last
weekend’s match against Monaco
The loss of the England international meant that Spurs
had to play young striker, Harry Kane, in the lone striker role. Kane worked
hard and managed to pull a goal back for Tottenham midway through the second
half but the arrival of Soldado with a huge reputation for scoring goals in La
Liga for Valencia in the past three seasons will encourage everyone at the
club.
Tottenham’s lack of goals in the second half of last
season was one of the reasons why Tottenham failed to make into the top 4 in
the Premier League and so claim a place in this season’s Champions League. With
Soldado’s experience it will be hoped that he will quickly find his goal touch
in England, something he’ll want to do to ensure he retains his position in the
Spain team with the World Cup in Brazil next summer.
Although the transfer has only just been completed,
Soldado was sure enough of its completion to have changed the details on his
twitter account to a Tottenham player a few days ago and follow this new Spurs
team mates.
