Ghana U20 starlet Clifford Aboagye has signed a five-year
contract with Granada CF.
Granada CF have tonight officially announced the signing
of Ghanaian U20 international midfielder Clifford Aboagye, from Inter Allies
F.C.
The highly talented 18-year-old, who won the Bronze Ball
award at the recent U20 World Cup in Turkey, has been the focus of attention of
numerous leading European clubs this summer. Amongst those chasing his
signature were Barcelona and Real Madrid, according to a variety of reports in
the Spanish media late in July.
Italian side Udinese were the first to move for the
player, but due to their partnership with Granada, it’s the Spanish club who
have completed the signing of Aboagye, on a long-term contract lasting until
June 2018.
Aboagye will be registered for the Granada B team, who
this season compete in the Segunda B4, but will also be available for
first-team selection. Having already impressed club staff at the club whilst
he’s been training for the last few weeks, pending the completion of his move,
it may not be long before he gets to feature in La Liga.
The move is a good signal that Granada are serious about
securing some of the best international talent, as they continue to grow on and
off the field. The B team has enjoyed two consecutive promotions from regional football,
to the third-tier of the Spanish game, with suggestions that their ambitions
are to reach even higher. Several youth internationals from different countries
have joined this summer, all of whom have been coveted by much bigger clubs,
but who ultimately took a shine to the rapidly growing project at Granada.
