Arsenal ignore Liverpool director declaration that Luis Suarez is not for sale

Saturday, 3 August 2013

The Suarez saga was seemingly set to be over once it was reported that the controversial hitman’s camp won’t be seeking arbitration over a clause Arsenal activated when it bid a pound above 40 million for the player.

Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre had reiterated yesterday that the Merseyside-based club continue to harbour no intentions of selling their talisman.

However, Arsene Wenger has spoken to London24 candidly about the Gunners’ interest in the Uruguayan forward, indicating that Arsenal are still trying to sign the forward after two rejected bids from Liverpool.

Wenger says that he wants to sign the forward “if it is feasible in an amicable way”, saying that Arsenal “completely respect what Liverpool wants to do”.

The saga could threaten to continue till the end of the transfer window, something that will not worry the Gunners should they eventually get their man due to Suarez serving a ban for 6 more EPL matches. However, Wenger says that the Uruguayan’s previous indiscretions will not the tolerated should he make the switch to the Emirates, saying that “the values that are very important for this club have to be respected by every player, no matter where he comes from.”
