Old Trafford side ‘expected’ to make an offer for German
international.
Man United are ‘expected’ to make an offer for Borussia
Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels according to Sports Direct News.
David Moyes is keen to strengthen his defence due to
consistent injury concerns over captain Nemanja Vidic as well as having to take
into account Rio Ferdinand’s advancing years and as such a move for German
international Hummels makes good sense though one wonders if Jurgen Klopp will
consider selling another of his top talents having seen a number of promising
players leave his Bundesliga side in recent seasons.
Man United’s defence has not looked solid in pre-season,
failing to keep a clean sheet in any of their five matches during their Asian
and Australia tour, conceding nine goals in the process.
Hummels is said to top the Scot’s wish-list and Borussia
Dortmund are said to be after in excess of £25m for the former Bayern Munich
man.
Moyes can call upon the likes of Jonny Evans, Chris
Smalling and Phil Jones as alternative options to aging pair Ferdinand and
Vidic though Hummels would clearly be a better quality option.
The 24 year old has made 188 appearances for Borussia Dortmund
since moving to the Westfalenstadion in January 2008, helping his side to two
Bundesliga titles as well as a Champions League final last term.
Having previously successfully raided Borussia Dortmund
to bring in Japanese international Shinji Kagawa the Premier League title
holders may feel they can repeat the trick with a move for Hummels.
