Borussia Dortmund have reportedly joined the race to sign
Real Madrid starlet Alvaro Morata, who has been earmarked as one of Arsenal
main summer acquisitions.
Morata was already close to a loan move to the Emirates
in the last January transfer window but former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti
blocked his exit, claiming the young Spaniard would have more chances in the
second part of the season.
However, even though he has proved his worth every time
he has played, his situation has not improved at all and according to reports
in Spain he is ready to leave the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer.
Spanish newspaper AS reported last month that Morata had
already agreed personal terms to move to the north London this summer, but Bild
claimed the Gunners will face competition from Dortmund for his signature.
Since Robert Lewandowski confirmed his summer move to
Bayern Munich after his contract at Dortmund expires, the German giants have
been looking for a striker and Bild reports they too have an eye on the Real
Madrid starlet as the Pole's replacement.
Wenger is also desperately looking for a back-up striker
for Olivier Giroud and Morata is reportedly leading a short-list of candidates
that also includes Diego Costa and Mario Madzukic.
Meanwhile, earlier this week Morata voiced his
frustration over his lack of first-team appearance at Real Madrid, after
scoring an amazing goal to complete the 5-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano at the
weekend.
"It's hard to prove things in just one minute. I
hope to score more goals in the big games. I work hard every day in the
training sessions and every time I play, trying to give the best out of me and
playing every minute as if it were the last one of the game. I will try to keep
going like that until the end of the season," Morata vowed.
