Arsenal are ready to make a second attempt to sign Bayer
Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender having failed with a bid in the summer.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has continued to monitor the
German international after a number of fine performances this season and rave
scout reports.
Wenger attempted to sign the tough tackling midfielder in
the summer following a £19million bid but the offer was rejected.
However according to the Daily Mail, that is not likely
to put him off making another swoop at the end of the season.
The Arsenal boss is looking for a new defensive
midfielder to protect the back four after watching his side get torn apart by a
number of title contenders this season.
Current midfielder Mikel Arteta turns 32 this Wednesday
and Wenger is looking to add a younger midfielder to his ranks in preparation
for next season.
The 24-year-old has been a regular for Leverkusen this
season and has 17 caps for his country.
