The 16 teams that will be participating in the 2014 FIFA
U20 Women World Cup including the Falconets will know their opponents at the
group stages when the draws for the tournament will be made on Saturday in
Montreal ahead of the competition which resumes in August.
Canada most popular female footballer, Christine Sinclair
has promised the 15 nations coming for the seventh edition of the U20 Women
World Cup which kicks off in August that they would have an incredible World
Cup.
Speaking ahead of the draw for the tournament in
Montreal, the striker who was discovered at the inaugural competition which was
played in Canada in 2002 recounts how wonderful the experience was for her and
she hopes the younger generation will also have that experience.
The Falconets became the first African country to qualify
for this tournament following a fantastic run in the qualifier stages. They won
final qualifying stage 7-0 on aggregate to see them pick one of the two tickets
to the championship.
The Falconets have been to all the editions of the
tournament since its inception in 2002. Their best performance has been in the
last four years where they finished second behind Germany in 2010 and fourth in
Japan 2012.
Ghana is the other African country to be in Canada.
