Nigeria goalkeeper coach Shorunmu hails Alampasu's
qualities
Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer Ike Shorunmu has hailed
the qualities of Golden Eaglets goalkeeper Dele Alampasu.
Alampasu, who was adjudged the best goalkeeper at Fifa
Under-17 World Cup, has been in the Super Eagles camp in Abuja, after being
listed in Nigeria's preliminary squad for the African Nations Championship
(Chan), which kicks off in South Africa next year.
The 17-year-old has turned out impressively in the
preparatory matches he has played for the Eagles, leading Shorunmu to describe
him as the future of the Super Eagles in the goalkeeping department.
"Surely Alampasu is our future goalkeeper and I must
confess that we got the quality we are looking for in him," The Sun quotes
Shorunmu to have said.
"He has the ability and potentialities to be the
future goalkeeper, but it now depends on him to keep his heads down, knowing
that this department is a very sensitive one."
Shorunmu further disclosed that he has been giving pep
talks to the player to boost his morale and guide his career.
"I have often spoken to him one-on-one on the life
to live. I told him that even at Under-17, he is now with the Super Eagles,
rubbing shoulder with big guys.
"I advised him not to be intimidated, he should be
himself, do it as he knows it and we will certainly guide him because he has a
long way to go."
