Napoli boss Rafa Benitez has revealed that Marek Hamsik
has returned to the team this week after being out with an injury for the past
month.
The 26-year-old, who has six goals in his 12 Serie A
appearances this season, was originally rumoured to be on the sidelines with
his foot injury for up to three months, but has been steadily recovering and is
on the verge of returning to full training this week.
Benitez released a statement on his official website on
Monday regarding the Azzurri’s training for their first match of 2014 against
Sampdoria on January 6 and announced the news of Hamsik’s return.
“I have to give you good news that emerges after a double
training session with the squad earlier today,” said the tactician.
“In the morning we carried out work with the ball,
focusing on both the technical and tactical aspects.
“In the early afternoon, however, we focused on specific
exercises that will be finalised on the pitch and some players successfully
worked on improving their performance in different positions.
“Emphasizing once again the professionalism and preparation
to the sacrifice of our players, the happiest news of the day, is that Marek
Hamsik has returned to the group.
“It’s the best way to celebrate the end of the year and
he’ll return to working within the next few days. Happy new year and forza
Napoli!”
