Arsenal find themselves in a very tough group in the UEFA
Champions League this season, where they take on Borussia Dortmund, Napoli and
Marseille, and will need to play some excellent football if they are to qualify
for the knock out rounds.
The Gunners have arguably the easiest possible start
on offer though as they travel to France to take on Marseille in their opening
fixture on Wednesday.
Given the rather large size of the French contingent at
the club, the players are no doubt relishing a return to France, none more so
than defender Laurent Koscielny, who believes Arsenal need to make a statement
of their desire to top the group with a strong performance at Marseille. The 28
year old defender told Arsenal Player, “If we can get a good result at
Marseille it sets us up well, as we have two home matches after this.
The most
important thing in the Champions League is to start well. It will be hard to
win at Marseille, but we have the quality to do it. We are experienced in the
Champions League and are all looking forward to this challenge again.”
Arsenal meanwhile have been buoyed by the news that
French striker Olivier Giroud is fit and available for the game, and the
Gunners will hope to make their superior quality count on the pitch.
