Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was relieved to have won
their second Premier League match against Fulham on Saturday, hoping that there
will now be less pressure on him to sign new players.
The away side were comfortable as they took a 3-0 lead
thanks to a goal from Giroud and a brace from Lukas Podolski, whose future at
the club has been doubted over the past week, before eventually winning 3-1.
Speaking after the win, Wenger said that people were too
concerned with getting new players in and have forgotten how good the current
squad is, the Daily Mail report.
“People are so much focused on the players coming in that
they forget how good our players are,” Wenger said.
“I know exactly what I want to do. Now we will be under a
bit less media pressure. Before next weekend it’s possible [to buy], but I’m
not the only one who can decide that because of the clubs who sell the players.
We are in the market, you know that.”
Giroud scored his third goal of the season from three
games to open the scoring in torrential rain before Podolski scored just before
half time.
The German international made it three on 68 minutes
before Darren Bent knocked in his first goal for Fulham to give them a
consolation.
Wenger was pleased for Podolski who he admitted hadn’t
been given many starts because of team balance.
“I’m pleased for him because he did not always start
recently, more because of the balance of the team than personal performance.
“He’s always in high spirits, he’s a very important
player and he can score goals. We had no interest from anyone making an inquiry
about him. Lukas is a great partner, everyone loves him in the squad and I want
to keep him.”
