NPFL Week 27 Round Up: Kano Pillars return to the top

Sai Masu returned to the summit of the league after a 1-0 win over Sharks despite having a game at hand while Bayelsa Utd, El Kanemi and Kwara Utd continued their impressive runs

KANO PILLARS 1-0 SHARKS

Gambo Mohammed's 73rd minute goal handed all points to Pillars and a chance to return to the summit of the NPFL after the club conceded the spot to Enyimba last week.

Eye witness accounts said that Sharks played the game of their lives and deserved at least a point.



Pillars are first with 45 points from 26 matches and may extend the lead if they neat Akwa United on September 3rd in the re-arranged game billed for the Sani Abacha Stadium.

Sharks have a date with Wikki Tourists on Wednesday while Pillars have a tough road trip to Owerri as guests of Heartland.

BAYELSA UNITED 2-0 ABS

Two late goals from Adamu Mohammed and Obinna Njoku in the 84th and 91st minutes gave Bayelsa United leverage over troubled ABS at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa.

ABS' technical crew and players were placed on half salaries and three game ultimatum by the club's management. They have started on a losing note and must win the next two at Akwa United and at home to 3SC.

For Bayelsa United and their coach, Isa Ladan Bosso, the maximum points has taken them to second on the log and level on point with Pillars but with inferior goals difference and a game more to the Kano side. They have 45 points from 27 games. Bayelsa United must get a positive result at Akure against Sunshine Stars on Wednesday if they are to maintain their current spot.

GOMBE UNITED 2-0 NASARAWA UNITED

The Savannah Scorpions stung the Lafia side 2-0 to hand Kadiri Ikhana a losing debut at the helms of Nasarawa United.

Ikhana, former Super Falcons and Kwara United coach replaced Alphonsus Dike last week after the latter was sacked over string of poor results.

Bilyaminu Aliyu scored his first professional goal for Gombe United when he got the opener in the 22nd minute before ex-Kano Pillars ace,Habibu Inusa got the second in the 50th minute.

Gombe United are sixth on the log with 40 points from 27 matches while Nasarawa United are still rooted to the relegation spot with 33 points from 27 games.

Gombe United will take their search for road points to Aba to face wounded Enyimba this mid week while Nasarawa United have a must win encounter at home to Dolphins.

KWARA UNITED 1-0 ENYIMBA

Okey Odita came back to haunt his former club, Enyimba when he nodded the only goal of the match for the Afonja Warriors at the Kwara State Stadium, Ilorin on Saturday evening.

Kwara United maintained their fourth spot because of El Kanemi's emphatic victory at home to Warri Wolves.

The Samson Unuanel led Kwara United are level on same point and goals difference with El Kanemi at 44 and +10 respectively but they are behind because the Maiduguri side have netted more(35goals) to Kwara United's 27 strikes.

The loss sent the Peoples Elephant down to fifth on the log with 42 points from 27 matches. Nembe lurk around for Kwara United on Wednesday while Enyimba will seek a big win at home to Gombe United to return to the top of the table on goals difference again.

EL KANEMI WARRIORS 3-0 WARRI WOLVES

The Seasiders played the game barely 48 hours after their gruelling Federation Cup semi final clash with Akwa United which they won 2-1 and the effect of the tie had its toll on Warri Wolves. They fell 0-3 at the El Kanemi Stadium to fresher El Kanemi who had a whole week to prepare for the clash.

The Zachary Baraje led team are now third on the log with 44 points from 27 games while Warri Wolves are seventh with 39 points from as many matches.

El Kanemi visit 3SC in Ibadan while Warri Wolves will pray for maximum points at home to Kaduna United this Wednesday.
