Arsene Wenger has not given up hope of signing Luis
Suarez from Liverpool, although the Arsenal manager has identified Swansea
City’s Michu and Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko as possible alternatives,
according to the Daily Mail.
Wenger has been in desperate search for a striker all
summer, first of all missing out on Gonzalo Higuain who despite being heavily
linked with Arsenal, completed a mega money switch to Napoli.
The club have also been left frustrated in their ongoing
bid to sign Luis Suarez, having two official offers rejected so far – the
second of which Wenger believed would trigger a release clause in the player’s
contract.
While Arsenal have been encouraged by Suarez’s desire to
make the switch to the Emirates, Wenger is aware Liverpool are unlikely to sell
to a direct rival so close to the end of the transfer window, and has therefore
begun identifying possible alternatives.
The Gunners are likely to return with a third offer of
over £50million for Suarez, in the hope it will convince Liverpool to part with
a clearly unhappy player.
However the club have also undertaken extensive scouting
reports on both Swansea’s Michu and Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko.
Arsenal have been linked with a move for City’s Bosnian
forward in the past, and would be confident of signing the player who is likely
to be fourth choice centre forward at the Etihad, following the summer arrivals
of Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic.
