Blues have sealed yet another deal after securing the
signature of Chile International Cristian Cuevas from O’Higgins. The capture of
Cuevas means that Chelsea have completed their fourth summer signing.
The 18 year old boy was part of the Chilean club’s lineup
10 times last season. However, he only featured in 7 games and started four of
them.
The youngster was impressive enough in a trial last year
to convince Chelsea management that he can be a bright prospect for the club in
future. Chelsea have given Cuevas 5 year deal that will end in 2018. The deal
was all but agreed early this year in February and now the player is officially
a blue.
Cuevas also featured for the national side in the U20
World Cup. He started three fixtures and played 287 minutes for Chile who lost
to Ghana in an exciting quarter final.
Blues have already signed the likes of Andre Schurrle
from Leverkusen, Marco van Ginkel from Vitesse and free agent goalie Mark
Schwarzer and now Cuevas becomes the fourth addition.
The Chilean claimed:
“I’m very happy, Chelsea were following me for more than
a year. What I wanted happened, which was joining this club”
Chelsea have reportedly paid 3.4 million pounds to hire
the services of Cuevas.
The versatile player can play as a left back as well as
left winger but for now he has to learn a lot, progress though the ranks and
surely he will have to be patient for first team football.
