After Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Nagoya Grampus 8 in Japan,
Arsene Wenger was asked by John Cross from the Mirror about the reports which
claim Arsenal have signed Brazilian winger Bernard and that he is set to travel
to London on Thursday for a medical on Friday [he actually asked him if we had
signed Bernard]
Arsenal fans will quickly point to the days before
Arsenal signed Santi Cazorla when Wenger claimed he didn’t even know who he was
or the denials he made about Mikel Arteta when he said ‘No truth in the links
with Arteta’.
That’s not to say the report, which we brought you
earlier and which originated in L’Equipe should be taken over what Arsene
Wenger says it’s just when it comes to transfer rumours you can’t trust him one
little bit with what he says in regards to specific players, especially the
closer we get to getting a deal done. Wenger’s answer could be correct in that
Arsenal have not completed the deal or it could be that we are genuinely not
trying to sign him – it’s impossible to tell.
Have we signed Bernard? I don’t know. Are we interested?
It would seem so. The original report which started all the rumours off
appeared on 12th July and in that they said they expected Arsenal to submit a
bid within 11 days.
