Players dropped from Nigeria Super Eagles squad

The technical crew of Nigeria's Super Eagles have dropped two players from camp, while four others have been called up in their place.

The affected duo, who were dropped for low productivity, are midfielder Mohammed Ajia of Bayelsa United and El Kanemi Warriors of Borno defender, Reuben Ogbonnaya.

Shola Ameobi scored one goal and set up another as Nigeria held Italy to a surprise 2-2 draw on Monday.

Stephen Keshi's men headed into the game having clinched their place at next year's World Cup with a play-off win over Ethiopia on Saturday.

And the African nation carried that momentum into the friendly clash at Craven Cottage, producing a determined performance against the four-time World Cup winners.

Italy were on top for much of the encounter and took the lead early on thanks to Giuseppe Rossi.

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has congratulated Stephen Keshi for helping Nigeria qualify for the 2014 World Cup after beating Ethiopia 2-0 on Saturday.

Appiah, whose team face Egypt later today (Monday) in Cairo, go into the second leg encounter with a 6-1 advantage, having mauled the North Africans in the first-leg, is aiming to emulate Keshi by helping his team qualify.

Bishaw: Ethiopia will challenge Nigeria in Calabar on Saturday

The Walia Antelopes’ national team coach said he will be cautiously optimistic going into Saturday’s World Cup play-off against Nigeria.

Ethiopia’s head coach Sewnet Bishaw insists his side still stands a chance of qualifying for 2014 Fifa World Cup though they lost 2-1 to the Super Eagles in Addis Ababa three weeks ago.

“We have to bear in mind that they got the 2-1 advantage in the first leg after we did not close down space they rarely got in the 90 minutes," Bishaw told cafonline

Eagles close Thursday training



Nigeria coaching crew to have a closed training session on Thursday.

After a hectic training session which featured all 24 invited players at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar on Wednesday, the coaching crew has decided to have a closed session on Thursday evening at the same venue.

Team Coordinator, Emmanuel Attah revealed that the schedule of the team has reached the crucial bend and it’s about time for fans and the media to be excused from Thursday’s session.

The Chelsea defender has been handed a recall after recuperating fully from shoulder injury.

Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo has been called up for the 2014 World Cup second leg qualifier against Ethiopia that is scheduled for the U.J Esuene Stadium in Calabar on November 16.

Omeruo has been training with the Chelsea first team after recuperating from shoulder injury he copped with Nigeria at the Fifa Confederations Cup in Brazil and played for the U-21s against West Ham on Friday.

On-loan forward Victor Moses is keen to win trophies with Liverpool.

Moses made a one-year loan switch from Chelsea in the summer, and has been a key part of Liverpool's three-pronged attack along with Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez.

Nigeria could face Ghana



The Nigeria Football Federation are reportedly trying to organise a friendly international against Ghana for the locally-based Super Eagles towards the end of the year.

The match will serve as a warm-up ahead of January’s 2014 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in South Africa.

According to reports in Nigeria the Ghana Football Association is yet to confirm or turn down the request.

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has been paid part of his outstanding salaries, NFF Media director Ademola Olajire says.

The Nigeria coach has not been paid for the last seven months, and the revelation sparked outrage last month.

But Olajire says that is being rectified.

Coach Husam Hasan of Jordan has named his 25-man squad that will confront the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Monday’s international friendly.

The Asians will be hoping to use this game to fine tune strategies for their World Cup qualifying play-offs against Uruguay while the Super Eagles will use it to assess their level of preparedness for next year’s CHAN in South Africa.
