Boateng attacked on Christmas Day

Schalke star Kevin Prince Boateng is recovering in hospital after he was allegedly assaulted on Christmas Day in Germany.

German newspaper Bild claims the former Tottenham midfielder sustained injuries to his ribs, back and neck after he was attacked in a street in Kaarst, near Dusseldorf.

A police statement read: "On Wednesday, December 25, 2013, at around 12.45, an incident of physical assault took place in Kaarst.

Hitzfeld: AC Milan Cast Off Boateng Due To His Injury Problems

Ottmar Hitzfeld believes that AC Milan sold Kevin-Prince Boateng to Schalke 04 for a relatively low price because his potential injury proneness.

The head coach of Swiss national team has recently queried the acquisition of Boateng by the German side.

“In Italy, they wanted to get rid of him [Boateng] because of his physical problems, especially that of his left knee,” said Hitzfeld to Sky 90.

German side Schalke 04 are concerned about the long-term fitness of Ghana midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng after he failed to finish the entire duration of their Uefa Champions League game against Chelsea last Tuesday.

Boateng had been in the treatment room since the international break but returned to play for the Royal Blues in their 3-0 battering by Schalke at the Veltins Arena.

The 26-year-old had not trained with Jens Keller’s men before the Chelsea game and told the manager during half-time he cannot finish the full 90 minutes.

Ghana midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng will start training with his German side Schalke today (Monday) after recovering from the injury, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The 26-year-old hoping that he will be fit enough to face English side Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League tomorrow as he is the club’s key player in continental competition.

Boateng missed Schalke’s 3-2 win over Eintracht Braunschweig on Saturday because of a knee injury, ending suspicion that he faked injury to avoid the crucial World Cup playoff win over Egypt in Kumasi last week.
