Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers plays down Premier League title challenge

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is refusing to get carried away by the club's excellent start to the season which has seen the team set the early pace in the Premier League.

With four games played, the Reds are one point clear of north London duo Arsenal and Tottenham but, with 34 matches remaining, Rodgers is not looking too far ahead.

Liverpool last won the League Championship in 1990 and Rodgers insists: "I haven't even considered a title challenge. The only focus is the next game.

"We'll assess it after 10 games, see where we sit then, and then again at the halfway point when we'll probably have a more realistic idea of where we can be.

"At this moment, we've played four - won three and drawn one - and we're in a good moment.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers insists Luis Suarez must apologise to the club and his team-mates before he can return to training with the rest of the squad.

The Uruguay international has been made to train on his own as the Reds boss was unhappy with the attitude he has shown recently, which culminated with interviews earlier this week in which he claimed the club had reneged on a deal to allow him to leave this summer.

That upset Rodgers and he has isolated the 26-year-old, who owner John Henry has said will not be sold to Arsenal despite the Gunners' bid of £40,000,001.
