Super Eagles midfielder Eddy Ogenyi Onazi has admitted
that they have to win their remaining games if they are to qualify for the
Morocco 2015 Africa Cup of Nations after getting a 0-0 draw against South
Africa in Cape Town on Wednesday.
The Eagles started their qualifying campaign for the
biannual competition on a rather poor note after a 3-2 loss to Congo at home
last Saturday. And Onazi admits it's a win-all-situation for them now.
"We have to win our remaining games now if we are to
qualify for the competition. At this point, there's no more home or away, we
have to win all the games," he said.
The barren draw capped a dismal start to the defense of
the African crown they won last year in 2013, which has left fans of the Super
Eagles hugely disappointed but Onazi says they still have to be grateful for
the result.
"The draw was not we hoped for but we still have to
thank God for getting a point.
"It now means we have to concentrate on winning the
other games," he added.
The result leaves Nigeria with just one point out of a
possible six, and third in the group. The Red Devils of Congo are the form
team, having won against Sudan to cement top spot with six points and the
Bafana Bafana lie second with four points.
The qualifiers resume in October and ends in November.
