MY OPINION ON ARSENAL VS MAN CITY by Asimolowo Abimbola

Monday, 15 September 2014

I’m so sure the Arsenal fans are buzzing, glad and excited with the way Saturdays game at the Emirates went, from the whistle it was a better performance , they played so well, so much better than the previous games but similar with the community shield, just a different Man City side.

From the start we pressed and got right in their faces, Flamini and Wilshere to thank for that, much better passing even though patient, every Arsenal fan who saw that game even though we just got a point would have seen a lot of positives to take forward. Sanchez was impressive, tracking back, coming inwards, helped Welbeck and Debuchy a lot but he still needs to play with the team a lot more, Danny Welbeck on the other hand was good on the day in my honest opinion, the fans ran praise on him in the opening minutes with every touch and with him having played his first game he did alright, good runs and link ups but can still do better and hopefully gain confidence and much composure in front of goal.

Mesut Ozil started again on the left, I still don’t get why Wenger does that but I think it’s too forcefully improve his work ethic or because Theo is still out or because he doesn’t work hard enough, out wide reduces the workload for the team, be it any of it, it needs to stop and he needs to get his head right, the Arsenal fans miss him.

Arsenal were on top for 20mins and they needed to use a goal to seal that superiority so that’s why when Kun Aguero got that goal, it was like a dagger in the fans hearts, poor man marking, poor tracking back and too easy. Flamini didn’t move back fast enough, Gibbs was caught out of position likewise Koscielny but with that Arsenal still kept on coming, creating chances, I’ll say again just the first half alone was much better than all the games played this season, the good ball movements. With that goal, City got back into the game, Navas was more involved, so was Silva. They really came at Arsenal with Szczesny keeping them out on two occasions, could easily have been 2/3-0.

The second half didn’t lack quality, it was another impressive half where we say three goals, a very exciting game, Arsenal picked off where they left off before the conceded and excellent pressing, positioning, precise passing brought the equalizer, Wilshere won the ball half way and started a fast break and finished the move off with an excellent unbelievable finish, so sure Hart expected the cut back and Wilshere again was influential in Arsenal lead, through Kompany’s clearance from Ramsey’s cross he nodded the ball back into the box, and into Sanchez path, who partly showed the Arsenal fans why Wenger spent so much to bring him to North London, very fine composed technique.

So sad we lost the game, if I am permitted to use that, to the same rubbish we have screamed on for the last two years, ZONAL MARKING, I thought Wenger made a promise not to do that this season, I was sad, very poor marking, why can’t everyone have a man, then we know who to blame and the person adjusts, zonal marking to an extent is rubbish because it gives the attacking team the advantage sadly. They just left the lead slip but still had chances to clinch it, so did City.

A very exciting game and a much better game from the last for both sides, so many positives to work on, next for Arsenal is a trip to Dortmund, hopefully they can replicate the famous win in the group stages last year at the Signal Iduna Park. Thank you for the constant support, Bless!!
