Jack Wilshere is confident that Arsenal will bounce back
from their Champions League hiding at the hands of Borussia Dortmund last
night, even if things haven't quite clicked yet for the Gunners this season.
A 2-0 scoreline in favour of the Germans was flattering
on Arsenal, who could have reached double figures such was the frequency with
which they cut through a hapless Arsenal defence.
As it was, Ciro Immobile and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
finished off the decisive chances either side of half-time, with Arsenal
disappointing right across the park.
To further compound matters for the North London side,
Wilshere appeared to injure his troublesome ankle in the final minutes of the
game, but remained on the pitch as Arsene Wenger had used all three of his
substitutions.
The 22-year-old told the Evening Standard: "We'll
bounce back. Our next Champions League game (against Galatasaray on October 1)
is at home and hopefully we'll get the three points.
"It's never nice to lose a game - we wanted to come
here and win - but that was our first Champions League group game.
"We have got five more so we have an opportunity to
try and get 15 points and that is what we'll try to do.
"It hasn't quite clicked for us yet but we've got a
lot of quality players and I'm sure it'll come right."
The Gunners can take solace from the fact that this was
their toughest fixture of the group stage and a 1-1 draw in the other game
between Galatasary and Anderlecht means that they will still be confident of
progressing to the knockout stages, but it already looks as if they may have to
settle for second place, with Dortmund setting a blistering early pace in Group
D.
Wilshere was full of praise for the Gunners' German
opponents.
"They are a good team and we have got to be a bit smarter
when we come to places like this," he told the paper.
"With their gameplan, they wanted to press us high
up the pitch and we let them do it in the first half.
"We started the second half quite brightly in the
first couple of minutes and then unfortunately it was the same thing again on
the counter attack and then the game is over.
"We had a few chances and even at 2-0, Danny had a
chance and if he had scored that maybe the last 10 minutes would have been a
different game."
