Real Madrid will start the defence of La Décima by taking
on Basel, Liverpool and Ludogorets in Group B of the Champions League. The trio
will provide the opposition for Real to progress into the knockout stages and
Carlo Ancelotti’s men will face them home and away between September 16 and
December 10. The top two in each group will progress.
Atletico Madrid, finalists last season, will face
Juventus, Olympiacos and Malmo in Group A. Barcelona were handed a tough tie in
the shape of PSG in Group F but will be relieved to see Ajax and Apoel
alongside them. Athletic, in just their second venture into the group stages,
will be relatively happy with their fixtures in Group H after being handed
Porto, Shakhtar and BATE. The San Mamés side managed to avoid tough ties
against clubs including Bayern, Manchester City, Arsenal and Dortmund.
