OFF THE POST – What is wrong with Arsene Wenger and the Fans?

Monday, 25 August 2014

I’m not a fan of Jamie Carragher, the former Liverpool defender and Liverpool Legend but I will totally agree with him on the Arsenal’s strength and depth to challenge for major trophies this season.

Mikel Arteta, 32, is the only natural defensive midfielder in the Arsenal team. With age setting in, Wenger needs to buy a box-to-box midfielder to replace him while Arteta will be a back up. – It will be difficult as Arsenal Captian.

Ending the 9 years trophyless regime and a taste of the silverware once again, one will believe that Arsene Wenger will strengthen the obvious areas that cost them the Premier League last season but NO – Wenger have seemingly ignored.

Against Everton on Saturday, the loopholes were exposed once again and top teams will exploit those areas when Arsenal play them.

FOUR MAJOR THINGS WERE OBVIOUS AGAINST EVERTON:

WORLD CLASS STRIKER

Olivier Giroud is a fantastic player but not world class striker. 16 goals in the Premier League last season can’t win an ambitious club the Premier League title. His cameo against Everton was the highlight of the game, having a shot on target with his first touch was awesome and getting the last equaliser was the icing on the cake for Wenger and the fans.

With Yaya Sanogo in the mix, Wenger has come out to say he doesn’t need any additional striker. Arsene Wenger said after the game: ‘I have more strikers than before so sometimes I can give them a little rest.’

ARSENAL AND ITS FANS

My activeness on social media have made me to encounter several clubs fans and their behaviours and I must confess, Arsenal fans are fickle minded. First to lose hope and they rekindle it back with a speed of light.

I share some of their sentiments; they all want another forward, defensive midfielder, centre-back and a qualification into the UEFA Champions League this Wednesday.

If they are not emotional about the state of their club, who will?

OX WILL BE VITAL FOR ARSENAL THIS SEASON

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has struggled with several injuries in past seasons and with an injury free season, he will be vital for Arsenal and the England National Team.

With his performances in Turkey and against Everton, he needs to push on from an injury-ravaged 2013/14 season and attempt to stake a claim to a regular starting place in this Arsenal team.

He may struggle to get ahead of Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott - when he returns - on the right of Arsenal's attacking three, but Arsene Wenger is increasingly looking to use the Ox in the middle, where he has flourished in big games.

Just like it’s the season for Jack Wilshere to prove his critics wrong, Chamberlain also have lots to offer this season.

WENGER MUST SPEND

With Calum Chambers, Alexis Sanchez, Matt Debuchy and the Joel Campbell (after loan spells) brought in already, there are still key areas to be strengthened.
And with the agitations from fans, Wenger doesn’t have a choice than to bring in two additional players to fill the Central Striker and Defensive Midfield vacuum.

With some days left before the transfer windows closes, the question is: Do the Gunners need to draft in some more external firepower?

Like they always say at Arsenal – In Arsene, We Trust.
