NFF Offer Stephen Keshi Four-Year Deal Worth N240M

Wednesday, 13 August 2014

The Nigeria football federation has offered a four year contract worth N240m to Stephen Keshi to continue as the Super Eagles coach which translates to the N5m monthly salary he was on in his previous contract, SL10 have been informed.

The NFF have said they expect the contract negotiations to be wrapped up this week, with a view to having him start preparations immediately for the September 6 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda in Calabar.

Emeka Inyama is an executive committee member of the NFF and he tells SL10 that they expect a deal to be done with Keshi this week. “We are making real progress with our discussions with Keshi and we hope everything is sorted this week, so that he can resume work,” Inyama said.

Another member of the NFF executive, and a member of the three-man committee negotiating contract terms with Keshi, Ayodeji Tinubu says: “We have already sent a draft of the contract to him. He’s not in the country at the moment, so we’re dealing with his lawyers and representatives and hopefully we’ll have a deal between Thursday and Friday of this week,” he said.

The NFF were initially willing to offer a N7m monthly salary for Keshi, but only an offer of a N5m monthly salary has been made to the former Hawks of Togo manager.

The offer of N5m is only contained in the first draft as presented by the NFF, but it is believed that both parties could settle for N7m when negotiations are concluded.

And already, one of Stephen Keshi’s representatives and chief negotiator, Emmanuel Ado has said they are not expecting Keshi to remain on the N5m he earned previously.

“Negotiations are going on smoothly and we hope to conclude pretty soon,” he told Cool FM. “But it cannot be at the same N5m he earned in his last contract. He has to negotiate for what he’s worth, and that’s what we’re doing.”

“It is not only about the money and Keshi will not hold Nigeria to ransom,” he continued. “But he has to earn what he’s worth and what he deserves.”

“There are so many other things he’s particular about and I hope these things will be sorted in time,” he added.
