In recent weeks, there have been complaints from all
quarters on the handling of matches by the men in black and the body saddled
with the smooth running of the Nigeria Premier League has released a statement
to that effect.
The League Management Company (LMC) has expressed concern
at a number of unguarded and unverified statements on the on-going Premier
League season which surfaced over the weekend and cautioned Club Officials and
the Media against claims that cannot be substantiated which taint the image of
the League.
Chairman of LMC, Hon. Nduka Irabor said whilst the
allegations are not to be dismissed, persons with proof of allegations of match
fixing and such other misconduct against Match Officials and other Club
Managers should come forward and submit such to the LMC or the law enforcement
agencies.
“We have worked very hard at improving the reputation of
the league, we have restored the integrity of our matches and are still
committed to turning the league into one of the best sporting brands in Africa
consistent with best global practices,” he said.
“The LMC will therefore not accept a situation where some
persons make wild and unsubstantiated allegations against Match Officials and
erode the positive public perception the league has so far enjoyed.
The LMC says it has noted the proactive decision of Crown
FC on one of its officials Media Officer who has been suspended for making such
allegations.
“We are investigating other such allegations made on or
two other instances with a view to ascertaining the veracity or otherwise of
the claim,” he added.
Irabor reminded the public that seeking to manipulate
match outcome, apart from negating the beauty of the game, is also a criminal
offence which security agencies can investigate.
The administrator added: “We have not foreclosed the
option of inviting relevant security agencies to investigate this matter and if
anyone is found involved in either match fixing or rendering of false
allegations against the league, the law will take its course.”
