Slowly but surely, Atletico Madrid are rebuilding their
team for the upcoming 2014-15 campaign. After having defied the odds to break
the Real Madrid-Barcelona hegemony at the top of the table to claim the La Liga
title, manager Diego Simeone lost two of his stars Diego Costa and Filipe Luis
to Chelsea.
However the Rojiblancos signed Antoine Griezmann
yesterday and are now ready to pursue their interest in Arsenal midfielder
Santi Cazorla according to Spanish daily AS.
It is believed that Simeone wants to bring the Spaniard
to strengthen his squad but the question for the Champions Legaue runners up
would be whether they have the cash to bring in the player. Simeone has already
spent €30m to get Griezmann and Cazorla might just be out of reach for the
Madrid outfit.
Atletico are also interested to bring in out of favour
Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez to the Vicente Calderon. The Mexican
has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford and might hardly feature
under new manager Louis Van Gaal. Moreover TMW have reported that Simeone
recently spoke on the interest in the 26 year old saying, “Everything is
possible. We seek players according to our budget.”
Hernandez has also attracted the interest of Italian
giants Inter Milan with owner Erik Thohir very much interested to bring the
player to the San Siro. Thohir recently said that his team needs a striker and
a midfielder to compete for the Serie A title in the coming season. “It s’
obvious that we need to take a midfielder and a striker. But names do not help
our strategies.”
