Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom,
Dalhatu Sarki Tafida, has predicted that the Super Eagles will spring a few
surprises with their performance at this summer's Fifa World Cup in Brazil.
Tafida made this remark at a reception party organized
for the team at the Nigerian Nigh Commission on Monday.
The Super Eagles will commence preparations for the World
Cup with a friendly against Scotland at Fulham's Craven Cottage on Wednesday,
and the Nigerian envoy has revealed his confidence in the team's ability to
bring glory to the nation.
Tafida revealed that his believe is based on the team’s
pedigree, the sound technical bench and the support of the NFF and that of
President Goodluck Jonathan to the team.
“I know President Jonathan will reward you excellently
and I will also be in Abuja, when a huge reception is organised for the team
after the World Cup and I am very sure the president will not fail to say thank
you, just play your part and leave the rest to him,” he said.
On his part, head coach of the team Stephen Keshi
revealed that he is working in tandem with NFF to ensure that the team is
devoid of injuries in the run-up to the World Cup.
He noted that friendlies must be played to keep the team
in shape both physically, mentally and socially because the players have not
been together for sometimes and there is need to ensure that all of them are on
the same page.
At the end of the event, Tafida praised the officials of
the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for reposing their faith in a Nigerian to
take charge of the national team.
"Other Africans have white coaches and they are
envious of Nigeria and a few others I am sure you will daze the world in
Brazil," he said.
