The Minister of Sports Tamuno Danagogo has revealed that
funds have been released to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to help the
country's preparation for the upcoming World Cup.
Danagogo, who is also chairman of National Sports
Commission, said he has been in close contact with the NFF, and is satisfied
with their arrangements for the mundial.
“Last week Thursday, I interacted with the Nigeria
Football Federation (NFF) on the World Cup preparation, trying to compare notes
and even demanding that they put into writing their level of preparedness and I
can tell you that I am impressed with their answers," Danagogo said
yesterday in Abuja.
"I am hopeful, very expectant too that we will
surpass our previous records. We are going for the best and we hope that our
coaches and our players will live up to that expectation and believe."
Danagogo added that money will be allocated in batches to
the Super Eagles based on their progress in the competition.
“In terms of finances at least we have released money to
get the team to a reasonable level in the competition.
"You must understand that these competitions and
their funding come in stages. You take the group stages and you take up to
another so that there can be some level of accountability."
Danagogo revealed enough money has already been provided
to cover expenses for the team should they reach the group stages of the
finals, as well as for friendlies leading up to the event in Brazil.
