Juventus and Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane has
stated he agrees with Ishak Belfodil’s decision to leave Inter in order to find
consistent playing time and fight for a spot on Algeria’s World Cup roster.
Zidane and Belfodil share Algerian origins, though the
Livorno striker chose to play for Algeria while Zidane chose to play for France
and helped them to a World Cup victory in 1998.
“You cannot improve without playing. Training without
playing for one or two years can be heavy, the training cannot substitute the
competition,” Zidane told the Algerian newspaper Le Buteur.
“I can understand his ambition, he wanted to join a big
team like Inter but surely he was told that he would not have had much space
and that he would not have lasted long.
“If he chose to leave it is because he understood that he
has to play, also because he has a chance to go to the World Cup.”
Belfodil so far has collected two caps with the Algerian
national team.
