The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at Wrestlemania is no
more. In front of 75,000 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, the WWE
legend lost to former WWE and UFC Champion Brock Lesnar, falling to a third F5
slam.
The instant reaction was hard to see on TV with fans at
the Superdome showing faces of shock, confusion, and anger. The reaction from
wrestling fans around the world has been one of saddness and dismay. The
outcome was widely expected to be the Undertaker walking out of New Orleans
with ‘the Streak’ standing at 22-0, but it will now be 21-1.
The Undertaker’s health have been in doubt for some time.
For the past few years, he has gone into the shadows after defending the streak
at WM but it just got harder and harder to do that. He has endured dozens of
serious injuries and numerous surgeries. Even with plenty of time out of
action, the Deadman’s body may be telling him that it’s time to call it a
career.
‘The Streak’ is now history. It was widely considered to
be one of the prized parts of pro wrestling folklore and made every
Wrestlemania more special thank just another wrestling show. It was the white
whale of the WWE, and that elusive fish has been caught.
